During pre-op consultations, the type of prosthesis, the desired size, the way the prosthesis is to be inserted and where are all considered.

The form of the breasts is also considered, and if they are fallen, the type of prosthesis is considered to lift and/or reshape them (mastopexy).

A pre-op study needs to be undertaken, with a mammography, analysis and cardio-respiratory checks.

Surgery is carried out under general anaesthetic in the Clinic's operating theatre, with the patient remaining in the clinic for 24 to 48 hours.

If the patient is a smoker, she should stop smoking at least 10 days before the surgery and not smoke again till at least 10 days after to avoid complications and after effects.

After the surgery, the patient should go to the doctor's office to receive the necessary dressings, and during 10 to 15 days the patient must not strain her arms or lift heavy weights.
