The objective of this surgery is the removal of bags and excess skin from the eyelids
Blefaroplasty surgery involves some slight risks.
An exhaustive pre-op study therefore needs to be undertaken, with analysis, cardio-respiratory checks.
This is an surgery which tends to need a general anaesthetic or else neuroleptoanalgesia local anaesthetic, the effects of which last for three or four hours
A short stay in the clinic is normal
An occlusive bandage is applied for a few hours.
Sutures are removed between the 3rd and 5th days.
It is advisable to wear dark glasses to hide ecchymosis until the fifteenth day.
For a month after the surgery, light make-up may be used to hide the external part of the incisions.
After 2 or 3 months patients usually have an approximate idea of the final result.
Small cysts sometimes appear, although these are easily removed and never detract from the results.
Photos are necessary in order to make a detailed study of the area to be operated upon.
They are also useful for comparative purposes with post-op photos.
Surgery may be performed using general or local anaesthetic. The patient should stay overnight in the Clinic, for between 12 to 24 hours.
The surgery lasts either 1 or 2 hours, depending on whether surgery is carried out on 2 or 4 eyelids.
After the surgery some discomfort might be experienced, consisting of edemas on the eyelids and the tear ducts.
Scarring is intradermic and stitches may be painlessly removed by a nurse after 3 to 5 days.
Possible complications which might arise tend to be amaurosis, small cysts and ectropion. Hypertrophic scarring and keloids are complications which depend on the patient's own scarring and are not related to this surgery.
All patients should attend VODDER Method Manual Lymph Drain sessions led by a specialist in the area. These are necessary in order to ensure full recuperation and improved aesthetics for the affected region.
It is important to strictly follow all recommendations given to the patient throughout the cosmetic surgery process.
