FACE LIFTS

Location Webcam Print

This term covers all surgery which seeks to tighten skin or drooping tissue.
Over time, tiredness, laughing and a range of other expressions, such as worry, sadness, revulsion, and disdain leave their mark on the face with:

  • a certain slackness of the skin and our expressive muscles factors and our nasogenian lines and wrinkles becoming more marked.
  • Bags or dark circles under the eyes.
  • The appearance of lines which break the symmetry of the face, as well as naso-labial folds or puppet lines, leading to jowls or a double chin.

This facial ptosis leads to the formation of lines and wrinkles which become actual fractures of the skin.
The only appropriate treatment to correct these imperfections is a face lift which seeks to counteract the excess of soft tissue in relation to the skeleton, tightening the skin, correcting the ptosis and reducing the amount of lines and wrinkles.
It is the cosmetic surgeon's job to advise the patient as to which is the best solution for the, as not all skins age in the same way. A rigorous analysis of each case is necessary, indicating which is the best treatment for each patient.
It should be remembered that this surgery, which makes the patient look younger, has a parallel psychological effect. It is therefore necessary to ensure that the patient is well-informed as to all aspects of the surgery and is fully aware of the results that can be expected. They should also know that, although rare, post-op complications can arise - bruising, bad scarring etc. These complications do not tend to affect the overall result although they do delay it a few days. A face lift is a surgical surgery, with all the normal risks, however slight they might be, that such intervention implies.
The cost of this surgery varies and generally depends on the time needed for the surgery, its complexity and anaesthetic and clinical costs.

TYPES OF FACE LIFT

There are two types of face lift:

  • Facial Lifting. This mainly corrects slackness of skin on the neck and face.

  • Frontal Lifting. This corrects the weakening and fall of eyebrows, “frown lines” and lessens the effect of horizontal lines on one's forehead. It seeks to treat the oval of the face and the neck.

Lifting Cervico-Facial

It seeks to treat the oval of the face and the neck.
The cut lines are hidden beneath the hair, in natural skin folds or behind the ears where the scars are invisible.
The skin can be lifted in a number of ways. The Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System (SMAS) tightens the skin with a series of deep suture points made during surgery
Surgery can be combined with lipoplasty of the cervical and under the chin regions to improve the aesthetic results.
The skin readapts easily and stretches back into place, with excess skin removed, allowing sufficient to be able to suture without excessive tightening.
In order to minimise post-op bruising, some surgeons use natural gum which act on the skin, adapting perfectly to the flat surface.
After surgery, a compressible bandage is placed on the affected area. This is especially appropriate when lifting is done to correct the eyebrow line and deep forehead and brow wrinkles

Lifting Frontal

This corrects the weakening and fall of eyebrows, “frown lines” and lessens the effect of horizontal lines on one's forehead.
Skin cuts are made behind the hair line, meaning that all scar tissue is completely unseen.
The lifting of the skin is carried out

  • on the frontal muscle up to the eyebrows and

  • the bridge of the nose.

The surgeon then makes the necessary corrections to the forehead and brow muscles.
The lifting of the skin is carried out on the frontal muscle up to the eyebrows and the bridge of the nose. The surgeon then makes the necessary corrections to the forehead and brow muscles.
Once the skin has been tightened, the excess is removed before suture.
The compressible bandage is applied systematically, like a turban. All these steps can be carried out during the same surgery.

Both liftings

can be done in the same surgery.
