Liposuction is a surgical technique that essentially corrects localised excess fat. The objective is to improve the shape of the body by removing the accumulated localised fat that distorts the figure.
The areas that are most resistant to diet and exercise, such as the stomach, hips, waist, knees and double chin, can be trimmed down considerably using Liposuction, resulting in a more spectacular figure. The reduction in the number of fat cells is permanent.
It is necessary to distinguish between two types of fat:
The Liposuction procedure removes both deep and superficial fat, which will change the shape of the excess curves that all women want to lose, permanently and definitively.
The final results will be determined by the elasticity of each patient's skin. Women under 40, in theory, obtain the best results, but depending on the skin, good results can be obtained at any age. Flaccidity limits the degree to which the skin will retract, in which case fat can be removed, but in a smaller quantity. Liposuction will not change the skin's appearance, but it will improve the body's figure.
Liposuction may not be used to slim the entire body but is used for specific and localised areas. Many times it is not necessary to lose weight before the Liposuction procedure; in fact, it is better to do so in the post-operative period: the result will be better.
Pre-operative photographs are necessary to carry out a detailed study of the area to be treated, and they will be used during the surgery to know where and how much fat to remove. They are also compared to post-operative photographs in order to evaluate the result.
Anaesthesia is only used on the area to be treated, local anaesthetic; therefore, Liposuction is done on an outpatient basis. When the procedure is finished, the patient can return home on foot. In some cases, it is recommendable to perform the procedure under deep Sedation, General Anaesthesia or Epidural Anaesthesia.
The duration of the surgery is determined by the quantity of fat to be removed, as well as the preparation time before the surgery. It usually lasts about 3 to 4 hours.
During the surgery with local anaesthesia, it may be possible to feel slight discomfort, but it is not painful. There is no pain after the surgery, but there is some discomfort that can be relieved with normal painkillers which will be prescribed.
Scars are minimal, less than 0.4 cm, and they are located in places which are only slightly are not-at-all visible. The suture will be removed the first week after the surgery; it is painless and will only take a few minutes in the doctor's office.
The after-effects of the surgery, which are, in general, simple and normal, consist of oedema, ecchymosis and lipodestruction.
Ecchymosis or haematomas, to a larger or smaller degree, are inevitable and disappear in three weeks. The bandage and girdle or lipo-panty limit and reduce the appearance of haematomas. It is necessary to use it correctly.
An oedema or swelling of the operated tissues remains after the procedure, due to the anaesthesia and eliminated fat, but it will disappear progressively in the first month, and the results will already be visible. However, patience is required, since the final result and the retracting of the skin are not complete until 2 to 3 months after the procedure
During this period, it is important to receive VODDER Method Manual Lymph Drainage done by a Specialised Lymph Drainage Therapist. It is necessary for a quick recuperation and to improve the appearance of the operated area. It is essential to strictly follow the indicated norms throughout the entire cosmetic procedure.
