More than one thousand one hundred air traffic controllers from thirty countries will come together in Marina d'Or.

They will be taking part in the 42nd edition of the European Controllers’ Cup, from the 1st to the 6th of June.

More than one thousand one hundred air traffic controllers from thirty countries will be coming together in Marina d’Or Holiday Resort in Oropesa, enjoying several days together taking part in leisure and sporting activities, surrounding the 42nd edition of the European Controllers' Cup football tournament.

During the celebration of the event, the controllers will have an opportunity to enjoy Marina d’Or’s tourist complex and to familiarise themselves with the tourist resources along the Costa Azahar and throughout the province of Castellon. Just at the moment that the construction works on the Costa Azahar Airport are accelerating towards their final completion in a few months time, the European Controllers' Cup will give over a thousand registered air traffic controllers the chance to visit the installations of the airport which has been promoted by Castellon’s Provincial Authority, the “Diputación”, as well as strengthening the sporting bonds amongst this group of professionals, on whom we depend for the security and fluidity of air travel.

The following teams will be taking part in this edition of the European Controllers' Cup: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Byelorussia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Rumania, Russia, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland and Spain, and finally, the United States, taking part as a visiting team. Amongst the home cities of the participating teams are Athens, Barcelona, Belgrade, Berlin, Bordeaux, Bucharest, Budapest, Dublin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Lisbon, Madrid, Milan, Moscow, Munich, New York, Nice, Paris, the Prague, Rome, Vienna, Vilnius and Zurich.

The tournament aims to foster a closer personal relationship between air traffic controllers from different countries, through sport and the leisure time they will enjoy in a relaxed health tourism atmosphere, such as that provided by Marina d’Or Holiday Resort, a seafront development on one of the Mediterranean Coast’s best beaches, where they will be staying from the Monday the 1st to Saturday the 6th of June. The first stage will take place during the first two days of the competition, with a total of 120 matches (15 per group).

The knockout stages will take place on Thursday and Friday with the matches corresponding to the last 16 stage, the quarter finals, the semi finals and the finals. A complex logistics system has been set in place for the celebration of the European Controllers' Cup, allowing the participants and others attending to take away great memories of the sports, leisure and tourist installations in our province. It’s worth pointing out that the European Controllers' Cup will bring together, both in Marina d´Or and other parts of our province, the largest concentration of professionals from this group in any one event.

The result of the Tournament will be much more than the simply sporting one. It has become a truly international event that fosters personal friendships amongst air traffic controllers, through a combination of sports, tourism and leisure activities. Amongst the latter activities, Marina d’Or’s scientific seawater spa in Oropesa del Mar will be something completely new for many of the participants. Marina d’Or extends a warm welcome to the participants to the 42nd European Controllers' Cup and wishes them a pleasant stay in our province.

We hope they will enjoy the extraordinary tourist resources on offer in the Costa Azahar and throughout the province, with outstanding historic monuments, wonderful scenery, delicious seafood and mountain gastronomy, exceptional hotel installations, leisure activities and sporting installations. Very soon we will have to add Costa Azahar Airport to this extensive tourist offer, placing Castellon on the Air Traffic Controller's map of destinations, so directly connected to their professional activity.
